Road to Wimbledon

You may have spotted Senior Girls pupil Issey in the Maidenhead Advertiser recently, celebrating winning the ‘Road to Wimbledon’ under 14s Junior title. Earlier in August, Issey Purser reached the finals of the 2016 HSBC Road to Wimbledon tennis competition which is a nationwide event which is open to the best young players in the country. Issey is already a Great Britain international in her age group, and qualified to play at the most famous venue in world tennis after winning club and county events early in the summer.

Pupil on the Road to Wimbledon

A bold and aggressive player, she has fierce determination to win and dreams of playing in the main draw of Wimbledon not too far into the future.  Issey met Tim Henman and he’s offered her the chance to have a practise session with him later this year.  Issey aims to be on Court No.1 and Centre Court at Wimbledon by the time she is 20 years of age.

In the final at Wimbledon, Issey won the first set 6-2 and lost the second 6-7 against Gemma Filshill from Scotland.  That took the game into a ‘match tiebreak’, which Issey won 11-9.

Jo Cox, PE Teacher said;

“If fearless is what separates the best from the rest, Issey has it in leaps and bounds and we look forward to watching her progress.”
