How to Engage Boys in Poetry

We have this video to share with you or English Teacher Mr Wespieser incredibly performing the bottle flip in front of Senior Boys. He recited the following poem and performed this to the boys before ending it in style!

So the situation's this -
I met this girl last night.
She was standing at the bar
and she looked alright.
I knew straight away
she was the girl for me
I’d like to take her for a Nandos
or a KFC.

I had a vision of her smiling
as I stole a chip
before I proper won her heart
with a bottle flip.

Mr Wespieser commented;
“I did a performance poem (the subject of National Poetry Day was 'Messages') about a boy who meets a girl and doesn't know how to win her over, so texts his mates for help, gets advice, and then eventually wins her heart.

Because I was in character i dressed as a kind of 'street' individual. I wanted to tap into things that the boys like - hence Nandos, KFC and bottle flipping (it's a craze at the moment).“
