U14 County Hockey Report
The young squad faced Newlands in the first game of this County Tournament. Some really exciting hockey was played with Claires Court the eventual victors winning 4-1, the goals scored by captain Lana Wallis, Kate Jesseman, Hannah Hale and Kesia Richardson. The girls faced The Holt in their second game, and again were the far stronger side. Although The Holt goalkeeper was exceptional Claires Court kept the pressure on and eventually were 2-0 victors with superb goals both scored by captain Lana Wallis.
The third game was against St Mary’s, which was a tough game, with the sides evenly matched. The girls pushed up to try for the win with some great patterns of play from Yasmin Paton and Freya Wilson, but a break from the opposition caught the Claires Court defense out of position and St Mary’s were awarded a penalty flick in the final five seconds of the match, which the St Mary’s side capitalised upon therefore winning the match 2-1 against the run of play. Further games against Leighton Park, Holyport College and LVS both frustratingly ended in 1-1 draws (goals from Hannah Straw and Lana Wallis x2).
However the girls rebuilt their confidence for their final game against Charters with a 2-0 win, seeing the girls progress through to the County Plate finals that took place a few days later.
County Plate Finals
The semi final was against Holyport College who are a very tall and physical side. Claires Court hockey playing experience and strength shone through as they beat Holyport College 2-0. After this victory the girls faced Kennet in the County Plate final. With a few minutes to go, a superb piece of play up the right hand channel ended in a superbly taken and well-timed goal from youngster Kesia Richardson who confidently placed the ball in the back of the goal which had the sideline applauding the great hockey they had just witnessed. The Claires Court girls truly deserved being crowned County Plate Champions, congratulations to all.
