Celebrating Chinese New Year
With celebrations happening all over the world for the Chinese New Year, Claires Court Juniors have been exploring the significance of this event.
The Year 1 girls learned about the customs of Chinese New Year.
They tasted some foods traditionally eaten during the celebrations, made dragon masks and also wrote Newspaper reports about the traditions that they might experience if they were involved in the celebration.
The all agreed Chinese New Year is a lot of fun!
Boys in Year 2 were incredibly lucky to be visited by parent of the school, Mrs Cairns; who talked to the boys about the Chinese New Year and how it is the Year of the Monkey.
The boys made Chinese lanterns and asked lots of questions!
She then surprised them with lots of yummy goodies! Each boy was given a cake, a fortune cookie, some traditional hard candy and a very special red 'money' envelope (a traditional gift that is given on New Year with money inside it) - though we think there was some very 'sweet' money in the boys envelopes! The boys had a lot of fun and thoroughly enjoyed the visit and goodies!
