U13 ISA Netball London West Championships

On Wednesday 16th November the U13A netball team travelled to Sherfield School to play against other independent schools in the ISA regional qualifier. The tournament consisted of two groups playing in a round robin format. The winner and runner up from each group, then played in the final round to qualify. In total, ten teams took part (including our U12A team) and only three teams would be able to qualify for the national championships.
We played Kew House in our first match, and unfortunately for us, this was our hardest game and we lost 7-2. However, we kept a positive attitude throughout. Our defensive players (Kate Webster, Jessamie Lindley and Anjie Odesanya) managed some great interceptions, and Ariel Specktor’s movement in attack was brilliant.
Our second match was against Alton Convent. We played really well and performed cohesively as a team. We won 7-4; Ariel Specktor scored five goals and Rachel Okoro scored two. Jessamie Lindley also performed well, controlling the pace through court and linking the defense with attack. It was a great match and we were all really pleased with the win.
Our third match was against Ibstock Place. Again, it was a very close match and we lost 4-3, with their final goal being scored just before the closing whistle of the game. Emily Tapner-Evans, Hannah Hale and Jessamie Lindley played extremely well in centre court and won possession of the ball on many occasions.
In our fourth match we drew 4-4 against Ballard School. Kate Webster and Hannah Hickson worked hard in defense together, putting lots of pressure on their shooters. However, through court we lost possession of the ball on too many occasions and we didn’t perform as well as we know we can.
We achieved third place in our group, and our U12A team also achieved third place in their group. This meant we had to play our U12A’s for 5th/6th place. We performed well and won 9-0. It was a really fun game and a nice way to finish the day. Well done to our U12A team for playing so well and achieving sixth place overall.
Although we were unable to qualify, we all really enjoyed the day and the opportunity to play against stronger teams. There was some fantastic netball played, by both the U13’s and U12’s, and all the players should be proud of themselves. Finally, a big thank you to Ms Davis and Mrs Bennett.
