Bushcraft Survival Skills

Year 6 boys that didn’t head off for the Rugby tour took part in two days of fun Bushcraft activities! To start the boys learned vital first aid skills run by School Nurse, Mrs Webster. Pupils had a chance to learn and apply basic first aid skills that might be needed in bushcraft situations and each received their own small first aid kit and a certificate to show what they had learnt.
In the afternoon the pupils competed in an orienteering challenge around the school site before heading outside to learn how to hunt food (not real animals!), build weatherproof shelters and light fires (using flint and steel) before cooking a yummy supper. The group then camped overnight in the sports hall and the following day they practised boomerang throwing and setting traps just as prehistoric men would have.
