Girls Shine at the National Swimming Finals

Rhiannon Year 4, Yana Year 6 and Kally Year 11 represented the ISA London West area in the National Finals at the London Aquatics Centre. The competition is notoriously tough and only the top swimmers are selected to compete.

Head of PE, Jo Cox wrote the following report;
Rhiannon won two gold and a silver medal in her events, a superb outcome highlighting Rhiannon’s strength in swimming.  She won a gold in the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle with times of 48.02secs and 38.21secs respectively.  Although young she is hugely experienced in the swimming arena having represented Claires Court in the Regional rounds for the past two years but being too young to compete at the National stage until now.  Rhiannon also won a silver medal in the Freestyle relay, initially it was deemed as gold as the electronic scoreboard was showing London West as the winning area, but it got changed due to an error with the finishing pad.  Nevertheless, a wonderful display of talent and definitely one to look forward to watching in the future.

Yana Todorova was selected to swim in the Freestyle relay, always an excitingly fast race!  Her team finished the race in 2:31.41mins which was good enough for 4th place narrowly missing out on 3rd place, well done Yana, a very talented all-rounder indeed.

Kally Mudge, our top Claires Court swimmer and ISA National representative since junior level, was swimming against girls of up to two years older than her due to her events being Years 11-13 and had a superb day!  Winning four bronze medals in the following events; 100m Backstroke (1:14.94mins), 50m Butterfly (32.10secs), Freestyle relay (2:00.36mins) and Medley relay (2:21.33mins).  Kally has been involved in top level swimming since a very young age, she dedicates much of her time to not only honing her own strokes, but also coaching others both in school and out of school.  Kally is not only very humble about her own swimming accolades but was a wonderful support and confidence booster to Rhiannon and Yana at the National Finals, thank you Kally.

Our next swimming events will be the Junior Swimming Galas which takes place in the Summer Term and we look forward to seeing how all of the Junior Girls have progressed and watching them shine in a fun competition.”
