Year 3 girls have been learning all about how volcanoes work and made their own before using science to make theirs erupt - of course safely outside.
They constructed their volcanoes from a bottle covered with painted papier-mâché, then included details such as trees around the base of the volcano and molten lava seeping out of the top. Then they poured some lava into the volcano (water, detergent, baking soda and red food colouring) and took them outside to begin the eruption! With everyone at a safe distance away, the teachers poured vinegar into the volcano and watched as red lava spewed down the sides of the mountain.
Here’s instructions on how to make your very own volcano
