What's Planned for Girls World Book Day

World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading.

This is the 20th year there’s been a World Book Day, and on 2 March Claires Court Girls will be hosting three different events to celebrate and inspire reading…

Maisy Mouse World Book DayA visit from… Maisy Mouse

Lower Junior Girls will welcome the one and only Maisy Mouse… on her birthday! Stories of Maisy and her friends have been entertaining children for 25 years and she will be in school to tell a favourite story for our World Book Day celebration.

Ali Sparkes World Book DayA visit from… Ali Sparkes

Junior Girls in Year 3-6 will meet Blue Peter Award winning author Ali Sparkes, who will talk about reading and writing books, which include the S.W.I.T.C.H and Shapeshifter series.

A Classics Challenge from… Year 10 and 11 ASDAN Group

Senior Girls will be set a challenge to find hidden children’s classics all over the school… can you decipher the titles from the clues? Each House can select two winners (and their guests) to attend a Winner’s Tea Party in the Senior Library on Friday 3 March. Start your search on World Book Day and submit your entries to the Librarians.

Free Books!

The main aim of World Book is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. That’s why all Claires Court pupils will also receive a free £1 World Book Day Book Token which can be exchanged for one of ten, specially produced £1 books or redeemed against any purchase from participating bookshops. The Book Tokens will be distributed to pupils during morning registration on World Book Day. For a list of the ten new £1 books available this year, see here.

The overall winner’s design will be made into a real National Book Token gift card and distributed to hundreds of bookshops nationwide in time for Christmas – PLUS you could win up to £500 of book tokens for your school and £200 each for you and your teacher! And FIVE of our favourite entries in each age category will be added to an online gallery for everyone to see from the summer.

Come and see the Librarian during Book Clubs for a book token template or download one here. Closing date for school entries: Wednesday 29 March.  See here for more information.

World Book Day 2017: Year 7 ebook Download Day

This term the Year 7 Information Skills lessons will focus on finding and downloading an ebook from the Claires Court digital library collection. Ebooks are available for loan at all times via the library database, ‘Access-It’. This database can be found on the Library Services page on the Claires Court Hub, ensuring access to Library Services is extended beyond the school day and into the school holidays. The majority of these books were purchased with donations by the College PTA.

As part of our celebrations for World Book Day this month, we are inviting pupils to bring in a digital device from home on which to download an ebook  of choice. This may be a phone, tablet or e-reader - any device the girls would choose on which to read their ebook.

7A Download Day: Monday 13 March
7B Download Day: Tuesday 14 March

The rules for electronic devices in school will still apply. All devices must be handed in to form tutors during morning registration and will be collected by library staff in time for the lesson.
