U9 South Coast Football Tour

On Friday 10 March, 16 very excited Year 4 pupils set off for the sunnier climate of South Coast, sadly no one had told the weather man!

Nick Butterfield, Head of Sport gave us an account of their weekend:
“We arrived at Ballard School on the edge of the New Forest in thick drizzling fog. This did nothing to dampen the pupils spirits as the U9A took the the field. Ballard put up some stiff competition but with some strong defending from James Wojciechowicz and Harry Watson, followed by slick passing from Jack Toker and George Paish,  Ben Savidge was able to latch onto a through ball to score the only goal of the game, giving the A team a 1-0 win.

The U9B team having watched the A team were eager to get going. Again Ballard were keen to get some early shots in but Ishraj Samra was able to pull off some timely saves. Hugo Lopez-Guisado converted a clean through ball allowing Samuel Tschiesche to add to the score in the second half, for the B team to finish 2-0 up. After the two matches each team got together to nominate a man of the match from their opponents. Hugo Lopez-Guisado won the U9B and George Paish won the U9A.

Junior Boys U9 Football TourWe finished the afternoon by all four sides splitting to form four different Barbarian teams for a little tournament. This was a lovely way to finish the afternoon and showed the Year 4 pupils the true meaning of being on tour - fun and friendship! The evening was spent relaxing at the Lugana Hotel in Bournemouth where the pupils enjoyed the skittle alley and a very competitive football quiz.

On the Saturday we travelled to Burton Youth FC. This time it was the B team's turn to take to the field first. This was a tough game, although the players did fantastic well to support each other and close the opposition down early. The B team went ahead through a fantastic goal from Josh Spanswick. Burton came back fighting to level in the second half. The match finished 1-1, however, the B team had played some fantastic football and should feel very proud of their performance.

Junior Boys U9 Football TourThe A team seemed to be feeling the effect of the lack of sleep when they started their match and conceded three first half goals. In the second half we used substitutes to keep things fresh and Freddie Galitzine-Scott hit the crossbar with a fantastic long range effort. This seemed to revitalise the team and it wasn't long before Luke Robertson was able to get our first goal of the game, followed shortly by a second from Ben Savidge. Despite finishing very strongly, unfortunately, there was just not enough time left on the clock for us to score an equaliser.

It was a fantastic tour and there was some brilliant football played. The pupils finished the trip by chasing each other round the woods in the New Forest firing laser guns, great fun was had by all!
