Absolutely Delightful Afternoon Tea

The Senior Girls Year 7 and 8 Food Club hosted a spectacular afternoon tea for staff and parents.
Over the term the girls have been learning all about the concept of afternoon tea and each week they cooked cakes, scones and biscuits and froze them in preparation for the event. As well as creating and decorating tasty treats, the girls have been practicing their front of house skills - serving, laying tables and ironing their aprons for service.
Mrs Kerry Irons, Food Technology Teacher said; “ I am so proud of the girls and the fantastic effort they have put in. The event helped the girls’ gain confidence and develop their communication skills and I am really pleased at how well it went. Thanks to Years 9, 10 and 11 for helping set-up and making sandwiches on the day.”
Mr Paul Bevis, Head Teacher commented; “What an absolutely delightful idea, and so well executed by the Food Club. Parents and staff thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and the development of social confidence that the pupils' experienced was quite outstanding.”
The event was hailed a success by other staff and parents too, with several thank you notes coming into school. However, it’s what the girls said that really adds the icing on the cake.....
Alex Wright “It was really good. We learned that it’s very hard to make things in a short amount of time, it was a good way to practise our skills.’
Isabel Kemp “I learned how to serve people’s needs and make lots of new foods, it was nice to see everyone enjoying themselves”
Rebecca Ramsay “I learned how to make a lot of food for many people and prepare things in advance. The best part was when we got to taste our cakes at the end!”
