Rowers Prepare For Henley Regatta

Claires Court had their J18 4x and 8+ racing at the Metropolitan Regatta on the 3 and 4 June. It was a race to prepare the crew for the Henley Regatta in three weeks’ time.
The quad were up first in J18 4x. In fast conditions they set out to put together a decent piece and see what they could do, or at least that was what they thought the plan was! With some of the boys easing off halfway down the track and some of them taking it up, it was with great delight/surprise that they somehow punched out a time faster than the national schools record and took the win and the course record in the process. Going into the final they had the fastest time but it was too close for comfort; the crew from Globe rowing club took the early lead which they extended at half way. Claires Court boys then needed to put the afterburners on which they did to draw themselves up into contention. With 500m to go the boys went again to move into the lead which they extended approaching the line to take the win by just over half a length.
The Claires Court 8+ crew were racing in the new senior Tier 5 category. In their heat they came up against some decent crews and dropped back early on finding themselves in 5th place at the halfway marker. At this point they dug deep and managed to pull themselves into 3rd position by the end of the race, meaning that they progressed to the final later that day. In the final the boys struggled but simply getting to this point was a great achievement, considering this was against senior men.
