  • A War Memorial for Maidenhead College, 1914-1921

    From 1891 when it was opened until 1947 when it was sold, our College Avenue site was home to a private school for boys (variously “The College School, Maidenhead” and “Maidenhead College”). For most of these years the College was owned by the Inglis family but unfortunately no formal records survive to tell us its story.  Building on research started by Year 10 boys in JOPA week, July 2014 and drawing on census, civil registration, military and other records, some 160 pupils, staff and family associated with the College have so far been identified with about 50 serving in some military capacity between 1914 and 1921.

  • Making Poppies For Remembrance Day

    The Nursery children recently created poppies by printing a shape in paint and cutting it out. The girls and boys then created their own field of poppies after watching a simple animation to gain an understanding of why poppies are worn.

    Excitement was palpable when Nursery children discovered chickens in the garden! The children were invited to handle, feed and observe the bantams, building on their knowledge of farm animals. On another occasion, Emma the hamster came to see them, and they were surprised to hear that hamsters are nocturnal.
