Junior Boys Drama

Junior Boys have plenty of opportunities to express themselves through the Creative Arts of Drama, Music and Art; the skills learned play a key part in their education.

DRAMA

Drama is an integral part of the curriculum at Junior Boys and is used to support and explore creativity, imagination, confidence and language skills. All Junior Boys have an opportunity to shine in the end of term productions but performing is not constricted to the big show stoppers, boys often take to the stage during assemblies, Prize Giving and talent shows.  Drama is also offered as an after school club.

MUSIC

Music plays an important part of life at Junior Boys. Boys enjoy two timetabled class lessons a week, with the opportunity to take part in individual instrument and singing lessons, led by qualified and experienced specialist teachers. There are many opportunities to showcase their talents and new musical skills, from informal recorder concerts, to performances at Harvest, Christmas and the end of Year Prize Giving events.

Twice a year our musicians and dramatists come together to take centre stage in Maidenhead at 'Art on the Street', a community event that displays the School’s creative talent alongside some exceptional local artists.

Art

Art lessons focus on self-expression and experimentation, beginning in Reception with an art afternoon each week. This creative start involves a supported project, as well as free art activities and patterning opportunities. When boys reach Year 2, they are introduced to the work of named artists and in Year 3, art movements and techniques are studied in greater depth. In Year 4, exploring the design and technological elements of art are introduced, the boys beautifully crafted fairground rides are creative masterpieces.  Then, higher up the school, boys choose an ‘Artist of the Week’ and the selected pupil's work is then celebrated in a gallery.

Once a year there is an exciting opportunity for the whole school to work together in an outdoors afternoon of art and before school many of our budding artists can be found working hard on their creations in the Drop in Art sessions that run twice a week.
