Meet the Head & Pupils
HEAD OF SENIOR GIRLS
Steven Richards, shares his vision and what inspired him to teach.
"My vision is to contribute to the School’s mission of providing a unique education by continuing to be an exemplary pupil focused school."
What makes your school so special?
It’s the ‘pick and mix’ of a great education, we develop pupil’s character, social awareness and critical thinking. We make sure they have a grasp of the principles of language and of Mathematics, a sense of History and the natural and social Sciences, we allow them to be creative and explore the Arts. Our pupils are confident and successful because they are happy and have a sense of belonging.
What makes Senior Girls a great place to learn?
It’s our great teachers that make this a great School.
What made you want to teach?
Initially the love of my subject but teaching has totally exceeded my expectations. Teaching children is the best thing ever, pupils never fail to challenge you, make you smile and keep you on your toes, so you always have to be on top of your game.
What advice would you give someone new to teaching?
Being respectful! What we say to pupils and how we say it, is one of our most powerful teaching tools. It permeates every aspect of teaching and school life. Our language can lift young people to their highest potential and help them build positive relationships, it shapes how pupils think and act and, ultimately, how they learn.
How do you think current and former pupils describe you?
Approachable, caring and fair.
What's the most satisfying aspect of the job?
Seeing a young person’s eyes light up when they finally understand or feel success and get a sudden boost of confidence.
