Scholarship Awards for boys and girls Years 7, 8 and 9.
Tenure
- made on the condition that the holder will pursue his or her academic career at Claires Court through at least to conclusion at GCSE
- offered subject to parents signing and agreeing to the terms stated in the Scholarship Award Conditions
- valid whilst the holder plays a full and active part in the subject area for which the award has been made, to the conclusion of GCSE study, until the end of Year 11
- reapplied for on entry into the Sixth Form
- subject to the Principals’ continuing satisfaction with the holder’s performance.

Academic Scholarships
Dates for Academic Scholarship applications for entry in September 2022

All candidates participate in two sessions on the examination day which take place between 9am and 12 noon. During the sessions they will be assessed on their underlying ability and academic skill set in the following areas: English, Maths and Science. They will also be asked to answer a question on one of the following topics: Geography, History, Religious Studies or Modern Foreign Languages.
Successful applicants for academic awards usually have an IQ of 120 or higher and/or a proven track record of academic excellence. Where evidence exists outside of Claires Court that confirms this status, this should be provided to the Registrar for consideration. For example, applicants are likely to be listed on their primary school Gifted & Talented or Scholarship Register. It is very difficult to prepare specifically for the assessments as they are predominantly skills based.

To a maximum of £1,000 per term (£3,000 per annum). The Principals reserve the right to share an award between candidates if two or more candidates of equal merit qualify for one award. |
The prestigious Claires Court Scholarship Award is to the value of £5,100 - only one boy and one girl will be selected each year at 11+ level, and the candidate must display outstanding academic achievement.

Awards are to the value of £210 per term (£630 per annum). |
Successful applicants must have a strong track record of high achievement in the chosen subject area, and are likely to be on their current school’s Gifted and Talented or Scholarship Register.

Art

Music/Choral
Music/Choral Scholarships reward boys and girls of outstanding musical or choral
ability and encourage them to contribute to the musical life of the school.
Assessment |
Mainly based on the performance of prepared pieces and interview. Candidates may offer evidence of previous Graded Assessment (by one of the recognised Examination Boards). For musicians a second instrument may also be offered in support of an application. Expected standards of performance are Grade 4 (RSM or equivalent), however candidates of all abilities with the right talent and potential will be considered. |

The assessment will last approximately 15 minutes - each applicant
will have 15 minutes to warm up or practice prior to the audition.

Drama
Drama Scholarships reward boys and girls of outstanding dramatic ability and
encourage them to contribute to the dramatic life of the School.
Assessment |
Candidates will present one poem of their own choice (preferably learnt by heart) and a second poem chosen by the examiner, as well as participating in a group improvisation.
For external candidates a strong reference from a candidate’s present Head Teacher is essential. Other supporting testimonials are welcome. Expected minimum standard of performance is Grade 4 (LAMDA or equivalent), however candidates of all abilities with the right talent and potential will be considered. |

The individual assessment will last 15 minutes with group work totalling one hour. |
