Claires Court Applies to Expand Existing Junior Sports Facilities

Last week, Claires Court submitted a planning application to increase the sporting facilities available at our Junior School site at Ridgeway, through the construction of a new MUGA.  A MUGA is a Multi Use Games Area providing an all weather playing surface.

Mr James Wilding, Academic Principal, commented: “The ability to play outside in all weathers is vital for school games, facilities that we have already at our Senior Girls and Senior Boys school sites.  The MUGA will permit our junior children to access a greater number of sports than at present including tennis, hockey and lacrosse, as well as football and touch rugby all year round.  The current cricket nets alongside the area are not usable in the winter months and the footprint of the proposed new MUGA covers an existing space within the school sporting field.”

He continued, "We are committed to improving all aspects of the facilities available to all our children across our sites and this is a stand alone application to enhance our provision at Juniors.  We have taken the advice of Sport England, and considered physical, visual and environmental circumstances to ensure that this new facility will be accommodated as seamlessly as possible adjacent to our sports hall. We will need to remove three trees to facilitate the installation; however in 2021, we planted in excess of 5,000 trees on the Junior site in celebration of the school’s Diamond Jubilee and HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The resulting improvements will be so beneficial for all."

The application can be found on the RBWM website under 23/02778/FULL | Development of Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) for school use. | Ridgeway School The Thicket Cannon Lane Maidenhead SL6 3QE
