Claires Court Year 11 student, Amelie, showcased exceptional talent and resilience this past week at the prestigious Wales & West Showjumping competition, held at the renowned David Broome Event Centre in Crick. Competing in the challenging Welsh Masters 1.10m/1.15m classes, Amelie secured an impressive second place in the 1.15m championship track, a remarkable achievement that paves her way to compete amongst some of the country's very best showjumpers at the iconic Hickstead.
The Welsh Masters event spanned three days, beginning with a 1.10m class, followed by "knock-out" rounds, and culminating in the highly anticipated 1.15m championship. 23 riders ultimately competed, making Amelie's second-place finish a testament to her skill and composure under pressure.
Amelie, who has been riding since the tender age of three and competing competitively since six, demonstrated incredible determination, especially considering a significant setback just last Christmas. "I had a bad fall during Christmas, which has set me back a bit as I broke my leg and ankle," she shared. "I’m now fully back riding!"
Her dedication to the sport is clear, with Amelie training every day bar one rest day. "Loads of consistent work is needed to keep the horse fit enough to compete," she explained.
Looking ahead, Amelie's next immediate goal is to secure another qualifying ticket for Hickstead this weekend on her other horse. Hickstead, known as "the home of British showjumping" and a legendary institution in the equestrian world, hosts its prestigious All England September Tour from September 12th to 15th. Qualification is fierce, with only the top three placings securing a spot.
Amelie's achievement aligns perfectly with the school's commitment to nurturing individual potential and celebrating student success in all fields. Given her qualification and the nature of the competition, there is every indication that Amelie will indeed be able to proudly represent Claires Court at Hickstead.
We wish her the very best in her upcoming qualification attempt and eagerly anticipate her performance at Hickstead in September.
