Whole School Results

We are delighted that our Year 11s are celebrating today a set of very successful GCSE results with 98% achieving five 4+ grades including English and Maths. Standout subjects were Biology, Chemistry, Further Maths, French, RE and Spanish with the highest percentage of 9 and 8 grades this year.

Despite the students starting their GCSE studies just before the first lockdown, 47% of grades achieved were 9-7 (equivalent to A*-A in the previous grading system), a fantastic testament to the hard work they all put in during uncertain times.

James Wilding, Academic Principal said,

“As with our A level students, those studying GCSEs have been pursuing their academic studies whilst the country has been in the teeth of a pandemic with little clarity offered by the government as to how their subject assessments would be carried out.  These excellent results emphasise just how well the students and teachers have managed to work together to make a really thorough success of their studies over the 2 years of their course, in particular over the first half of the summer term when public examinations were replaced by in school assessments and coursework”.

He continued, “For broad ability schools like Claires Court, we are thrilled that almost half of our students have demonstrated their capabilities at grades 7-9, but we are also very pleased that others with more modest capabilities have been able to succeed across the board, with everyone progressing to study A Levels or BTECs in September. We are really excited about our students’ re-engagement with all the additional activities we all value, and we look forward to a full return of all of our extracurricular programmes from September. As the boys and girls have shown in preparing for and racing at Henley Royal Regatta this week, their education is made so much richer by their involvement in all the other elements of the school life we offer at Claires Court.”

Steven Richards, Head of Senior Girls, added: “I am so proud of all of our students and whilst the academic results they achieve at the age of 16 and 18 are important, the wider benefits of an excellent education, built around firm principles and key values, will resonate way beyond these grades.  As tough as it was at the time, our students have come through lockdowns stronger, more resilient and better prepared for the trials of the future.  I would like to wish all of our students a wonderful summer and the very best in their future studies. Work hard and be nice to people and you will thrive.”
